Daniel Emerson, CEO

Daniel joined Light and Motion in 2007 and immediately set about focusing Light and Motion on building the best compact video systems on the market.  Says Daniel, “Light and Motion is an amazing company and I was very excited to join the team.  We have broad technology experience from fantastic LED light designs to remarkable electronic camera controls.  I am focusing the team on insuring we use these assets to create the most user friendly, video equipment on the market.”  

Daniel, a Stanford graduate in Design and Manufacturing, has run product development teams for Raychem, a fortune 500 company, and helped build and later run the Atlas Snowshoe Company.  He brings a strong background in manufacturing and design as well as consumer product marketing.

Paul Barnett, Director UW Sales

Heads the sales team and is himself an avid diver and videographer.  Paul’s passion for the sport and his energy is helping to move Light and Motion into worldwide markets.  Paul is a tireless advocate for better products and his weekly product testing dives keeps the design team charging ahead with improvements.

Engineering Team

Light and Motion has a deep engineering team that encompasses mechanical design, electronics design, software development, optics, and manufacturing.  All our systems are designed and built in house including our machined and molded parts.  20 years of experience has taught us to sweat the details.  We are proud of our record of innovation and are excited about the new developments we are bringing to market.  In 2008 we received the California Small business of the year award by vote of the California State Legislature.  Our commitment to our community and to our customers is a guiding value in our work. 

Operations Team

Our operations team includes production planning, production, electronic assembly, testing, machining, molding, shipping, receiving and inventory management.  This team has turned around our factory and takes great pride in their productivity improvements and quality improvements over the last 2 years. 

Michael Topolovac, Founder and Chairman of the Board

Michael is an avid photographer and video shooter.  He founded Light and Motion while finishing his degree at Stanford University.  His first product was a high power Halogen light sets paired with a lead acid battery optimized for marine environments.  Michael was an Our World Underwater Scholar and had the privilege of traveling the world working and learning about research on the oceans.  His experience with some of the luminaries of oceanography furthered his drive to build Light and Motion to serve the community that shared their world with him.  Michael continues today as the Chairman of the Board of Light and Motion and contributes to all our products and their testing.
